The iconic mid-century Bubble Light was designed by George Nelson in 1947 and was first put into production in 1952. The Cigar pendant takes the shape of its namesake, its elongated oval form gently tapers at both ends and delicately floats overhead, providing a soft, diffused light.

Inspired by a set of silk-covered Swedish pendant lamps that he felt were too expensive, Nelson created his own modest orb lighting series. Rather than silk, he used a self-webbing plastic developed by the military to form the translucent shell over a lightweight, rounded-steel frame. 

The renowned Bubble pendant forms part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
